PLNDR popephoenix NO LOVE tee

[Update] Today I found out I WON the PLNDR Members Made T-shirt Contest.

Although I didn’t have the majority vote (I really call shenanigans on that *wink)  I did win the favor of the judges at PLNDR and I was announced the winner. I wanna thank everyone who voted for me and everyone who help promote me by influencing their social circles. Another step in the road to artistic fame. Thanks again.

So today I decided to participate in the PLNDR Members Made t-shirt contest. Even though I’m not entirely thrilled with the terms I could use a $1000 in credit on their site so why not take a shot. I’ll create more ideas tomorrow. If you’re on this site you must like my work in some way if that’s the case, please show your support by hopping over to the site and casting a vote for my tee. I’m not condoning down voting but I wouldn’t be mad if you did. I kid, I kid.

I’ve be bombarded with requests for iphone wallpapers (320 x 480). Actually, a few people have been asking about them… Fine, FINE, I decided this was something my readers wanted. :D Plus it serves a dual purpose of helping my iPhone readers AND myself since I have an iPhone as well. You can find more wallpapers after the break.

This image comes courtesy of a Barnes and Noble conversation that I had on Friday.  So I’m hanging out with my boy The MarXman sitting around the cafe and we start up a conversation about music and the state of promotion as an independent artist. In the process a young lady sitting at the adjacent table chimed in and the conversation turned to who is better or a who do you prefer, Jay-Z or Nas debate.

Seeing how there is a profile image above of Jay there’s no real question of who I side with. Honestly, I don’t see how you couldn’t. Say what you would about who he is personally or outside of rap, which I really know nothing of. Like his line says “Critics might not admit but nobody in rap did it quite like I did it.” For eleven years he’s shaped the face of hip-hop through his vernacular, subject matter and fashion sense. He’s started and stopped trends with a manner of bars in a song. His worst album can still be considered better then some artist’s best.

In my eyes and ears, he’s the best that ever did. Who has been in the game this long and been this consistent? Who’s had this much influence over Hip-Hop? Who else is 40 and still relevant in Hip-Hop? If not him, then who? I would love to hear who you think is better.

Today’s image is brought to you by the letter Jay and the Letter Z. Its no secret Jay-Z is my favorite rapper I had this idea to design an image based on him and this is the first part of a multi-stage image. I used photoshop to create an illustrated version of a photo of him then cleaned it up in Illustrator. Colors and final layout done in Illustrator. This is a good beginning but far from over. Total work time: 2hrs 15 mins. Give or take 15-20mins. Let’s see what tomorrow holds.
