Things I love

This just blew my mind. I know all about green screen and its effects in movies as it allows even the lowest budget to film in places that would be otherwise impossible to reach. But I didn’t know who rampant it was in television. Law and Order, Heroes, Monk, just to name a few of the Big name shows that use green screen. What I find even crazier is the amount and the relatively normal places they are green screening (is that a word?). NYC courthouse? A San Francisco street? The Andes Mountains?!? It is truly possible to be any where in the world and say you were there and no one would know the difference. This is awesome and scary in the same paranoid breath.

I absolutely love this video. Nike’s art department has to have some of the most creative people working in their offices because they create some of the most spectacular videos. Their latest is “Human Chain” showing the path of determination of a driven individual with a perfect song, Ali in the Jungle performed by The Hours. At first I thought it was a group of cyborgs working in unison to create the path to greatness. I was immediately inspired by the amount of work it would take to make that happen so seamlessly. Then I realized it was one person, shot multiple times to show their path to perfect their craft. That’s when it truly gelled into an Ah-HA! moment.

The path to greatness isn’t easy and is lined with constant practice, incredible highs and spectacular lows. Its how you react to these moments, as they arrive which makes the difference.

Nick Gentry has a collection of paintings which discusses the use and discard nature of today’s storage mediums. With each new development the cycle of storage becomes shorter and shorter. I love the reuse of old floppy disks and VHS tapes as a canvas for his work. If you like his work, check out his site for the rest of the collection: www.nickgentry.co.uk/

Honestly, I don’t know where this came from or why its only airing in Australia on ABC3 but I’m sold on so many reasons.

  1. Black Panther is a solid Black Character and King of his nation. Marvel has a lot of black characters in their roster (I’m looking at you Rocket Racer) and its even more rare for one star in his own show.
  2. The Voice Talent: Djimon Hounsou voices Black Panther, king of the African nation of Wakanda. Along with T’challa’s family sister Shuri (Kerry Washington) and his wife Storm (Jill Scott.) How can you not love this collection of talent.
  3. Character designs are done by one of my favorite comic book artists, John Romita Jr. He’s a Marvel artists who’s been around for years and I’ve been following his work since I was in High School… many, many, moons ago.

Only downside to this is the show is only airing in Australia and has no US air date… Sigh. At least BET is involved so maybe it’ll come to the US eventually. Thinks about BET’s past…
