Working freelance is a tricky thing. Not only do you have to balance time and budget with the client, you have to negotiate how much of your own style will permeate through the design. This isn’t always an informed thing. Mostly because everyone has their own opinion on what constitutes great design and in that small window, where all factors converge, do you find a completed freelance project.
Continue to the rest of the postPrecious is a movie that is tough to watch. For me its one of those movies I see as one of one. You watch it once then you never need to watch it again. It’s not inspirational, motivational or thrilling. It is a tragic tale of child who was abused by her father and mother over the course of her entire childhood until she has to be a mother to her own children. Did I mention she can barely read? Most movies at some point hit a “OH Shit” threshold then begin working their way back to redemption and triumph. No. Not Precious. This movie just keeps going deeper down the rabbit hole of depression and abuse. There’s no reason for me to watch that again. At the same time, I wonder if this is the reason it won an Academy Award.
Continue to the rest of the postCouple weeks back I got a Netflix account and have been taking advantage of their instant play feature. Well, Azailia has been taking more advantage of it than I. She’s been watching a bunch of cartoons she’s hasn’t seen in a while since I cut off my cable. (honestly, in this day and age what am I paying cable for??)
Azailia loves Peter Pan and while searching through the Veggie Tales, Johnny Test and Clifford movies she found play performance of Pan. She was so enraptured that I let her stay up way past her bed time to watch the who show which ran around 2 hrs. She was so excited to watch it I got into it and was inspired to create the image above. She also drew the type, I added a little Pope Dust to the final though. I wish I could’ve captured her face when I told her Pan was played by a woman…

Most people know the phrase Carpe Diem, little do they know that the phrase had a second component. As shown above it asks the reader to take risks and live as if today is their last day on earth. Today may not be my last but I’m at a crossroads in my career. Over the last week, I’ve convened with my inner circle of professionals to figure out where my career will lead me. Out of these conversations I’ve realized that I’m in an isolated position and I’m becoming extinct.
Continue to the rest of the postHi my name is…
Will. You may know of me but you don’t know me. For years we’ve chilled, partied, cried, fought, traveled, explored, listened, watched, wrote, IM’ed, text messaged, called or even been intimate with each other; We’ve cooked, bought, stole, exchanged, made, downloaded, created, prosed, posed, taped, clicked, snapped, poured or even heavily thought about each other; We’ve sat up nights, leaned and watched the stars, squinted our eyes at the sun, dove deep below the ocean, climbed up through the trees or sat on our knees in the grass with one another; We’ve helped each other with our problems, paid bills, checked people, protected one another, stopped bleeding, wiped away tears, calmed each others fears, corrected our smiles by defying the odds of our frowns… but you don’t know me.
Continue to the rest of the postThis image is a menagerie of inspirations ranging from Afros, my place on the planet and most importantly, Erykah Badu. A couple days ago, EB dropped a video for “Window Seat” off her newly released album, New Amerykah Part 2. Besides being a deep song its accompanied by a creative video. In the video, Erykah is seen, in one rolling shot, walking through the streets of Dallas stripping down to her humility, baring herself for who she is without nothing to hide. All the people in the video are not aware of the shoot and are shocked, even more so as she’s gunned down by a world afraid of what’s different and what they don’t understand.
