Round two in the Smashing Magazine Wallpaper showcase. Sent it off a little late this month today is the deadline. I was living the mantra and was getting a lot of work done. I haven’t heard back from SM yet whether I got it. But once I know I’ll spread the word back to you guys. Click the image above to get a 1900×1200 version of the calendar.

Snow day in NY today. Enjoy the downtime. Do like I’m doing, get some work done.

Today’s drawing comes courtesy of a failed attempt to submit this piece to Illustration Friday’s Weekly contest. I started this last week but finished it after the deadline. I’ve been really busy this week with freelance and trying to finish up this book. So a lot of work has been pushed to the sideline.

Again another take on my painting skill its totally experimental. Eventually, paint shall submit to my whims but right now, lol, its really hit or miss. I think since today is a snow day here in NY its also going to be a double post day. See you guys later.

This just blew my mind. I know all about green screen and its effects in movies as it allows even the lowest budget to film in places that would be otherwise impossible to reach. But I didn’t know who rampant it was in television. Law and Order, Heroes, Monk, just to name a few of the Big name shows that use green screen. What I find even crazier is the amount and the relatively normal places they are green screening (is that a word?). NYC courthouse? A San Francisco street? The Andes Mountains?!? It is truly possible to be any where in the world and say you were there and no one would know the difference. This is awesome and scary in the same paranoid breath.

This image comes courtesy of a Barnes and Noble conversation that I had on Friday.  So I’m hanging out with my boy The MarXman sitting around the cafe and we start up a conversation about music and the state of promotion as an independent artist. In the process a young lady sitting at the adjacent table chimed in and the conversation turned to who is better or a who do you prefer, Jay-Z or Nas debate.

Seeing how there is a profile image above of Jay there’s no real question of who I side with. Honestly, I don’t see how you couldn’t. Say what you would about who he is personally or outside of rap, which I really know nothing of. Like his line says “Critics might not admit but nobody in rap did it quite like I did it.” For eleven years he’s shaped the face of hip-hop through his vernacular, subject matter and fashion sense. He’s started and stopped trends with a manner of bars in a song. His worst album can still be considered better then some artist’s best.

In my eyes and ears, he’s the best that ever did. Who has been in the game this long and been this consistent? Who’s had this much influence over Hip-Hop? Who else is 40 and still relevant in Hip-Hop? If not him, then who? I would love to hear who you think is better.

I am by no means a great painter. But I have the drive to push forward in my pursuit of mastery of this medium. In my study and research I found this art program that is a “painter” program, called ArtRage opposed to Photoshop which is a photo manipulation program which some use to create paintings. What is dope about ArtRage is they offer a free version of their software as well as inexpensive pro version. The pro version has a demo that offers full access to the app but on a 30 day time limit.

Its amazing how they have replicated the texture of paint and how the paint blends into each other when brush passes through two colors. I really enjoy using it. Although this piece is really crappy, (insert awkward laughter here) I’m proud of it and it was fun to do.

I painted this on the way to work a few days ago and meant to post it. You may be asking how is that possible ? I would be inclined to say that my phone is more powerful than the computers that sent Apollo 11 to the moon 1969. With this app called brushes, I have to the ability to use a hand held version of Photoshop. Only problem is my big fat fingers can’t do all the intricate things… Anyone else out there and take that ?
